The SunSpot 2 is a next-generation, high-intensity, ultra-compact light curing system, and the industry’s price/performance leader. We designed it with a low cost of ownership in mind, as demonstrated through its best-in-class long-life UV / visible arc lamp and filtered input long-life light guide. The SunSpot 2 features easy-to-use exposure time controls and foot pedal activation. Weighing a mere 6 lbs. and measuring 10.5 x 8.6 x 4”, it is the smallest system in its class.
The SunSpot’s new 200W lamp delivers the highest intensity in the industry. With its 18+ W/cm2 UVA and > 30W/cm2 output from 300–550nm, the system maximizes curing speed and is compatible with high-speed production automation equipment. This high intensity also makes the SunSpot 2 ideal for use with multi-pole light guides for simultaneous light delivery to two, three or four curing zones, eliminating the need for multiple lamp systems. The system ships complete with a high output long life 5mm x 1m liquid light guide.
Cool light output: A dichroic-coated reflector reflects only the useable UV wavelengths of light through the light guide. The harmful high-temperature infrared is diverted away from the material being cured. A secondary in-line filter is used to further reduce heat for extremely sensitive applications.
Lamp intensity control: The SunSpot 2 has a user-adjustable front-panel locking intensity control, with a 35–100% combined power adjustment range. This provides the flexibility to choose appropriate curing intensity for sensitive materials and to regulate intensity at a given level as the lamp ages.
Timer-controlled shutter: An accurate 99-second, foot-pedal-initiated exposure timer and shutter free the operator’s hands for other tasks. At any time, a second press of the pedal immediately stops the exposure and closes the shutter. The timer can also be switched from timed to manual mode for operator control of curing duration, with the shutter remaining open only while the pedal is depressed.
Front panel indicators: A lamp ignited indicator illuminates when the lamp is lit, and a lamp ready LED signals when warm-up is complete. A resettable front panel hour meter tracks lamp age, allowing for consistent lamp replacement scheduling.
Light guide handle lock: The light guide receptacle includes a handle locking thumbscrew that prevents accidental guide pull-out and provides for easy multi-pole guide balancing.
External logic signal interface: The system can be remotely monitored and controlled using logic signals available at a 9 pin D-sub connector on the unit’s rear panel. The digital logic functions allow high-speed control of the SunSpot 2 for applications requiring a direct interface with machine controllers or PLCs. Control signals include lamp off, shutter open and hour meter reset. Monitoring signals include lamp ignited and lamp ready.
Lamp power regulation: The SunSpot’s switch-mode power supply maintains constant lamp power regardless of variations in AC line input or lamp voltages. This tight regulation results in stable light output, repeatable cure times and long lamp life.
Lamp auto-dim: The system automatically reduces lamp power to a low standby level when the shutter closes, instantly returning to full intensity when the shutter reopens. This auto dimming extends lamp life and reduces power consumption and unnecessary heating.
Quick-change lamp: The system’s side lamp access panel is easily removed by loosening thumbscrews, making the lamp / reflector module replacement possible in as little as one minute.
Safety interlocks: Two unique safety interlocks provide maximum protection during operation and maintenance procedures. The first automatically forces the shutter closed if the light guide is removed, preventing operator exposure to high-intensity light. The second immediately removes system AC input power when the lamp access panel is opened, protecting the operator from high voltages or high-intensity light present behind the panel.
Forced air cooling: The infrared regulated dual-fan cooling system directs air to critical system components, ensuring cool operation, maximum lamp life and system reliability.

Liquid Light Guides (Single Pole)
Liquid-filled light guides have a higher transmission for UVA wavelengths and cost significantly less than fiber equivalents. The tradeoff is that the liquid guides do not have as long a life, especially for longer exposure times or when used for shorter wavelengths (i.e., UVB, UVC). Deep UV liquid guides with longer life for UVB are also available for slightly higher costs.

Fiber Light Guides (Single Pole)
Fiber guides do not degrade with exposure over time and are best for high power and long UV light exposure times. However, their transmission is lower, and the cost is typically higher than for liquid-filled guides.

Multi-Pole Light Guides
Multi-pole light guides are used for applications that require the light to be split and delivered to multiple cure targets. Liquid types have higher transmission, a well-balanced light output between legs and provide the best value. However, they can degrade with exposure over time. Fiber guides are also well suited for this purpose since they also ensure equal delivery of light regardless of guide rotation. Fiber guides are best suited for high power and long light exposures and do not degrade over time.
